Kees has a mild intellectual disability (MID) and is overweight. On his doctor’s advice, he walks through the village every morning. Along the way, he comes across the bakery, where he buys his favorite currant bun. A routine that brings him joy, but also poses a risk.

Over 43% of adults in the Netherlands are overweight. This percentage is even higher for people with MID. Being overweight increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer. People with MID often experience multiple challenges, such as mobility problems and mental health disorders, which further exacerbates the situation.

Standard (lifestyle) interventions often fail, posing a significant challenge for healthcare professionals. What if you had the right interventions to help people with MID achieve a healthy weight and thus improve their quality of life? This conference offers crucial insights to contribute to solving this problem.
